His tall frame makes him tough to cover and able to shield his stick with ease, and the stuff he does with a lacrosse wand is nothing short of magic. So who is the next Mark Matthews? May Madness: Conor Murphy's Debut in Net Sparked Colgate, But Tall Task Awaits in Duke
15 May 2012 | 12:15 pmAfter leading his team past the previously undefeated UMass minutemen, Conor Murphy sat patiently at the table, eyes sometimes darting around, sometimes staring at the wall behind the throng of reporters. The press levied numerous questions about the circumstances leading to his seemingly miraculous debut in net. Kyle Devitte: Trickle-Down Effect of Faces Returning to Major League Lacrosse
15 May 2012 | 9:24 amWell, now we have a league. The two expansion teams had a good old-fashioned shootout reminiscent of the Riptide/Dragons wars of attrition back in the aughts. Long Island and Denver crashed into each other with all the malice and hatred of sports talk radio hosts. Boston overwhelmed the Nationals with its transition, execution and American muscle. Rochester upset Chesapeake with a back-up goalie who registered 27 saves on one of the hottest teams in the league.

Canadians in the NCAA – 2012 – Week 13 – Heros Edition
1 May 2012 | 8:48 amsubmitted by Jason Donville Canadians in the NCAA – Week 13 The past two weeks have witnessed some extremely exciting late season lacrosse games that are having an amazing affect on the probabilities that a team may or may not make the final tournament. With most regular season games now played, teams generally know where they stand and the excitement that comes from this week’s play is centered mainly in the conference championships (where they exist) as the Automatic Qualifier (AQ) represents the only way into the national tournament for many teams. By this time next week, spots in… -
Canadians in the NCAA – Week 11 – Big House edition
17 Apr 2012 | 6:04 pmsubmitted by Jason Donville Lacrosse in the Big House! I’ve never been to a Michigan Wolverines vs. Ohio State Buckeye football game in the Big House (the Wolverines massive stadium) so I sure as heck wasn’t going to miss the first game in NCAA Division I lacrosse history between these two storied rivals. Of course, Michigan is brand new to NCAA lacrosse – but they are not new to running a winning lacrosse program. That said, when these two schools collide in any sport whether it be football, hockey, tiddlywinks and now lacrosse, excuses don’t matter. And so begins lacrosse’s… -
Canadians in the NCAA – week 9 – Jamieson Kuhlmann Edition
2 Apr 2012 | 12:02 pmsubmitted by Jason Donville Let the second season begin! Believe it or not the NCAA lacrosse regular season is roughly 70% complete. For most teams, if they are not currently ranked in the top 10 nationally, then their post season chances now rest on conference play and playoffs. Thus, April represents a second season of sorts, a chance for underachieving teams to prove that disappointments earlier in the season were not indicative of what their team is really made of. And of course, what makes this time of year doubly exciting is that the pathway to redemption leads directly through… -
Canadians in the NCAA – Week 8 – No Doubt About (aboot) it!
25 Mar 2012 | 6:04 pmsubmitted by Jason Donville (please excuse the formatting in the charts below) Hopkins and Mercyhurst are #1 – No Doubt about it! One of the most exciting occurrences in any sports league is when the top teams get an opportunity to play head to head. This of course happens in NCAA lacrosse at the end of the season but during the season it is always exciting to see two top or near top seeds (as determined by the polls) play head to head in mid-season competition. This past weekend saw two such games and both games lived up to the hype. In the first, Johns Hopkins defeated Virginia in…

Major League Lacrosse Weekly Recap
15 May 2012 | 11:27 amWeek 3 of the 2012 Major League Lacrosse season is in the books, and we have four games to discuss and predictions to verify. I was six for six with my MLL predictions entering last weekend, so let’s see if I was able to keep that streak going, and see who is looking like a contender early on, and who has serious work to do! I called the Boston Cannons – Hamilton Nationals game to perfection. I said the Nats would put up between 9 and 12 goals and they put up nine. I had Boston going for at least 16 at home and they put up 18, doubling the Nationals up and notching another… -
It’s Time To Quit Lacrosse And Take Up MMA
15 May 2012 | 9:44 amAfter a great weekend (and now the MCLA tourney) of college lacrosse, and lots of spots on SportsCenter’s Top Ten, I felt like lacrosse was in a good place and poised to have a great month. Not the real athletes playing in college, not the pros heading to the finals, but a bunch of… -

In a perfect world …
15 May 2012 | 12:04 pmThe following is all fun and games, there is no way Section 1 is ever going back to making tournament brackets using a committee of well-educated individuals. We live in a litigious age. Right now, moms and dads have better lawyers. So just for conversation’s sake, I’m anointing myself the man behind the curtain. Here’s the way I’d assign the seeds based on my observations … Class A No. 1 Lakeland/Panas No. 2 Mahopac No. 3 Suffern No. 4 Arlington No. 5 North Rockland No. 6 Clarkstown South No. 7 White Plains No. 8 Mamaroneck No. 9 Scarsdale No. 10 Wappingers No. -
LoHud Boys Lacrose Chat … Live tomorrow at 8:30 p.m.
15 May 2012 | 10:06 amWe’re going ahead with the plan to have a live chat tomorrow night after the homework is done. The seeds will be out and posted before lunch if all goes as expected, and I’ll have a couple of hours to digest all of the information before I start taking questions at 8:30 p.m. I’ve seen each of the 10 or 12 teams I expect to be contenders, and have a pretty good idea how things will shake out. You’ll have to wait for my blog posts on Thursday to see my predictions, but I might drop a hint or two as we chat. I’ll get the necessary post up tomorrow afternoon, so all… -
Scoreboard: May 15
15 May 2012 | 9:25 amIt’s the last day of the regular season for most area teams. They do say this game is quick. And we’ve got a couple of teams working to improve their playoff seeds. Hen Hud needs every win it can get, and cannot afford to let North Salem build any confidence. Fox Lane and Greeley are both one game under .500, so the loser could wind up playing a very difficult road game in the first round. Pelham could regain momentum in a hurry with a good showing against Arlington. I’m heading over to Yorktown, weather permitting, to watch the Huskers attempt to end a three-year drought… -

Scoreboard: May 14
14 May 2012 | 1:45 pmSounds like umbrella weather. The 48-hour forecast is a little dicey, and the last thing anybody wants to hear is the rumble of thunder. We’ve only got two days left to play games before the seeding is locked in. I did some math, and if it was done correctly, Somers could lock up the No. 2 seed in Class B with a win at Bronxville. I know nobody was happy leaving the field after Saturday’s loss, and the Tuskers were at practice again on Sunday morning, so they know how important this game is. Based on my numbers, which obviously are not official, I’ve got Yorktown, Somers,…
